  • Biography: Dr Bronwyn Stuckey: Postdoctoral Research Fellow and International Liaison Quest Atlantis. I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Quest Atlantis team and work to develop community attributes on the program. In general my research over the past eight years centered on building Internet-mediated communities and the attendant areas of social network analysis, discourse analysis and identity. I bring this expertise to my implementation and research work in the QA team. My recent work in Quest Atlantis has been in teacher professional development and in reaching and liaising with schools and teachers in networks outside and across the USA. To that end I have been exploring in-world professional development strategies, both formal and informal, as modes for continuing teacher education. I have also focused on aspects of student community building through student outreach and community roles. My applied research interests in QA lay in employing social network analysis to determine the value of and the factors that facilitate and sustain close and weak ties in global 3D multi-user environments like Quest Atlantis. Celebrating 2010

In late December Quest Atlantis won the Edublog Award for Best Educational use of a Virtual World. This award was nominated for and voted  by our teachers, so that now the world knows what we all know about Quest Atlantis: it really is the best! Of the 500 votes in this category Quest Atlantis received 224, making us head and shoulders above some very worthy contenders. This award was not just a recognition of the virtual world program but also of the teacher network that we have together developed. It recognises this blog, the Quest Atlantis Teaching Wiki, and all the teacher and student contributions on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Youtube  . Our knowledge sharing community supports teachers about the globe in sharing strong pedagogoical practices, teaching hints and tips and amusing and poignant stories from the classroom. (more…)

Teacher Connection Update December

Teacher Connections restarted back in September and the last 4 months have raised some very interesting discussions as well as opportunities for QA teachers to locate mentors, local teaching buddies, join collaborative projects and source prospective co-questing classes. The December meetings were small but very engaging as many Southern Hemisphere schools are now preparing for end of the year and retiring their QA classes and US counterparts were getting back in the swing after Thanksgiving celebrations.
